About Me
Travel and reading were my first loves. As a kid, while my mother did research for her own novels, I hid among the local university library shelves with stacks of mysteries and fairy tales from everywhere and daydreamed of being in those magical, far away places.
An Air Force brat, I was born in Germany, spent my childhood in Wisconsin, and received a BA at Oregon State University where I studied French and Photography. Six years in Switzerland where my husband was a member of an international research institute meant I got to speak Spanish, French, and Swiss German on a regular basis. I also worked part-time as a scientific librarian and a chef at the collective Restaurant Hirscheneck.
Now happily settled back in the Pacific Northwest with an extensive writing community and a stunning array of outdoor possibilities, this is pretty much paradise for me. Running, biking, hiking, and snowboarding are my favorite ways of getting out and appreciating nature.
The University of Washington’s certificate series on writing for children gave me a solid start and lots of guidance. When a picture book transformed into a novel, I realized that writing for teens was my calling. I recently went through the UW editing program and am pleased to add editing services to my repertoire.
I’m currently a member of the Northwest Editors Guild and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators of Western Washington (SCBWI-WWA), where I volunteered for several years on the advisory board and also served as the Co-Regional Advisor.
In 2020, the pandemic gave me the perspective and inspiration I needed to quit my full-time job in a hardware store to start a knife sharpening business in my garage worshop.
No matter what job I do, I always look for ways to improve the outcome, so editing and sharpening have been great ways to scratch that itch. My two kids are big now, and the two cats rarely need wrangling, so when I’m not in my workshop or procrasti-baking, I’m probably in my studio editing or working on a novel.
